Secret Garden Landscapes: Working with and for the Client
Client: Secret Garden Landscapes
Type: Logo & Identity, T-Shirt Design
Year: 2020
Custom branding & graphics
Cheryl, an excellent landscape architect and the owner of Secret Garden Landscapes, came to me with her vision for a t-shirt featuring one of her favorite flowers, monarda citriodora. I came up with an initial design, then further refined based on client feedback. I felt inspired by a Planned Parenthood poster I came across while creating the mood board for the project. I used that as the basic framework for the design, then illustrated a picture of my client’s face. After a few tweaks, we reached a final product that Cheryl was ecstatic about! From that design, we pulled out and further refined her logo. Not the usual order of operations, but a very happy accident.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this project was getting to work in the field with Cheryl and her team. This type of “anthropological” perspective gave me an invaluable and inside perspective of Cheryl, her company, and what her branding could be. This was a rare opportunity to work for a client at what they do, rather than doing that type of research from a computer.

“Hannah is a very talented designer and I love the work she produced for me. She is also professional and punctual. I am excited to collaborate with her on future projects!”
